" Slim Shady "

..so goes the name of this Jeepney.
maybe it was inspired by Eminem. ^0^
It's already late at night, but you can still catch a ride.
The minimum jeepney fare costs P 7.- pesos for the first 4kms. but it increases depending on how far you're going.
Although newly installed, air conditioned rides are available for tourism purposes and some well known areas.

This is what you see daily, still old school.

" The River "

This was taken on a scorching midday, not really an emminent bridge here in Manila,
somewhere in the downtown area.
In fact, some of the passers-by were wondering what in the world am I doing...
but, despite the foul-smelling river of Pasig or
the old shabby houses on the right.
One has to keep an open mind that there's still a something to look out for.
A mixture of old and new structures.
An aged tree that still grows on a tilted position or the pink Bougainvilleas that catch sight of
an almost clear reflection.
When most of us tend to neglect this part of the day to take a look at our surroundings
and appreciate some beauty in it.

Photobucket

I wish you guys a Happy weekend! ^0^

" Have a sit "

This is the interior of how our LRT train looks like,
still unhurried at this hour,
not crowded, so, we were pretty lucky to get comfortable seats.

The guard stretching out his right arm is politely asking the old guy
to move further ahead as seating there isn't allowed.

There's a regulation here that prioritization on the first row are for
senior citizens, children and disabled people only.

that's why most of the passengers were turning their heads, curious about the
slight commotion.

Photobucket

and then the rest of the seats on the first carriage are strictly for women passengers only.

and so, here we are waiting for the next stop. ^0^

" Santol "

The taste: It's tangy, sour but really tasty and refreshing.
One of my fave fruits during summer and while most of us
dip this with salt, I prefer it with sugar... It's sweeter,
hence my apppointment with the dentist after days of
consuming it. ^0^

Photobucket

The origin: The santol is believed native to former Indochina.
It is commonly cultivated throughout these regions and
the fruits are abundant in the local markets.

Climate: The santol is tropical and flourishes in dry as well as moist
areas of the Philippine lowlands.

Cool Use : Its bark is used in tanning fishing lines.
It can be made as a marmalade also.

" KaraoKe "

seen on a saturday night along the streets of Malate.

Photobucket

It's been awhile since I last went to a karaoke bar.
It used to be a popular get together thing, meet our with friends, sing till you ran out of voice, but business isn't so good these days and competitions are stiff that other establishments have better to offer.
Take this for example, For P 50.- = est. 1$ per hour, you can sing all you want,
from 3-7pm, off peak hours.

" Everlasting Flower "

The month of May brings to mind two things: feasts and flowers.
Outside the entrance of a posh resto in Makati are these vibrant colors,
perfectly displayed as an accent piece.

Photobucket

They're paper daisy or straw flower,
simply known as "Everlasting", straight from "Baguio City"- a city famous for its cool, almost unchanging climate, fresh strawberries and flower festival, locally called "Panagbenga" festival.
Strings of these flowers are sold in the markets and streets during summer.
Due to its longevity, it is also a favorite of devotees who adorn their
altars with these blooms.

I don't know if these came straight from Baguio, but it sure looks very attractive don't you think? ^0^

It usually comes in orange, but this one has got pink and some white tones.

" Arsenio Lacson "

Photobucket

This is the other replica of Arsenio Lacson seen along Roxas blvd.
more info :
In 1956, he was named Man of the Year by his peers and was known
as Manila's "Fightingest" mayor. ( as to what fightingest means, i'm not really sure...)
It was in his time that he had re-constructed and re-furbished a lot of Manila's old structure
and edifices, to name a few were the stockyard, the old slaughterhouse, Manila Zoo, Manila General Hospital or now, known as Ospital ng Maynila.

I had to review my old fotos, I took this one a while back but can't seem to remember when.

Note: not to be confused, the man sitted on the left side is an actual human being. ^0^

" Arsenio Lacson "

Photobucket

There's something quintessential about this foto,
You might have seen it as I've already posted this edifice before ,
However, this is another point of view that's hard to missed,
to catch sundown just as it's about to end.
The silhouette monument on the right commemorates a journalist and politician, who was Arsenio Lacson .

He was mayor during the 60's and an activist during his period.
He had faced several attempts on his life and at the age of 50 and was fatally stricken at a hotel suite while preparing to leave to do his weekly radio and television broadcast.

There's another replica of him, reading a newspaper, i'll post it tommorow.

meanwhile, see more inspiring skies! this friday!

" Are you awake? "

I was about to give up on my post for today,
Lately, the connection was poor,
It was really frustrating to wait for a page to open only to find out it has either timed out or it can't open the page.
According to our "server", a major problem occurred in their system which up to now,
they still can't seem to identify.

This is what I look like now, tired and sleepy already. ^-^

" Voting today "

Today marks a historical day for all of us.
The first time we would be using the automated machine as oppose to manual election.
Hoping that in the few days to come, sans corruption, sans cheating, nothing but clean and honest voting outcome.

so here's proof that the 3of us did vote. ^0^
Photobucket

and a "long" list of ballot sheet goes on...
1 president
1 vice-president
12 senators,
1 party list,
and some local representatives.

Photobucket

we had to look our brgy no. where we're located and its precinct no.
where we'll be voting.

" Sunset Boulevard "

" Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about
the beauty of sunset.
Sunsets are quite old fashioned...
To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament.
Upon the other hand they go on. "

" Sta. Cruz Plaza Fountain "

Strategically outside Sta. Cruz Church, right at the heart of Chinatown.
This structure definitely looks European, that's because its history dates back when the idea was to commemorate the installation of the water system by Spanish Engineer Don Francisco Carriedo of the Department of Waterworks in 1884.

Photobucket

Although the one you see right now is a reproduction, it's still maintained its
authentic design.

Don't know why but a closer look at its detail reminded me of Savage Garden's
music video. ^0^

" Correct me if i'm wrong "

It's a fact that I'm ignorant when it comes to plants.
I don't know a thing or two about them.
But I like how they look good on photos. ^-^
I saw this on a flea market and was curious why it's called " Euphobia ".
I find it a bit odd...
and of course I was right, it's supposed to be " Euphorbia! " ^0^

*Euphobia- fear of hearing good news, being afraid of something and
excited about it at the same time.

*Euphorbia- common name "spurge" derives from the french expurge (to purge).
One of the largest genera of flowering plants with approximately 2,000 species.
The genus is primarily found in regions of Africa and the Americas, but also in temperate
zones worldwide.

" Fish balls "

Photobucket

Here's a vendor selling local fishballs.
Look at how he fries it with re-used oil and then, you choose to dip them in one
of those sauces, sweet, mild or hot.
The big orange and black thing on the back are refreshments.

I couldn't take a good foto of him, he's too shy and it's a busy market so it's
hard to get a close look at him.

I used to eat one of those back in my school days, but haven't for awhile,
because it's unhygienic, but if memory serves right, it's tasty. ^0^

" Our lady of Remedios " - theme day

Photobucket

Today, it's supposed to be a non-working holiday but still, we have work because the gov't has transferred it again to next monday. Only in the Phils.

Theme day entry is a statue of Our lady of Remedios.
A brisk info about it:

Remedios de Malate was enshrined in Malate Church that came from Spain in 1624 by Rev. J. Guevarra.
It has survived the Chinese invasion of 1662, the British occupation of 1786 and the earthquake of 1863 but unfortunately was destroyed together with the church during the World War II.
Irish Columban Fathers ordered the making of a new statue.

The new statue was made as close as possible to the original.
Its image stands erect, plain and childlike, with no child in hand.
Instead, the hands are extended forward as though in the act of taking an offering. It is wearing its own signature vestments with empire sleeves.
