" San Juan De Letran "

Tucked inside the walls of Intramuros as a historical landmark and also
one of the oldest universities here in Manila.



San Juan de Letran - used to be headed by the Dominican friars.



I'm not sure if this is the front or the back part of the school, as I was zooming in pretty close.
But the whole look of it suddenly transports you out of Manila and that's what I love about it. ^0^

" Unknown Hero "

and infront of the ruins...
Yet another abandoned Statue along Magallenes drive.
I have no idea who and why it's there,
but it's quite an imposing sitting figure.



Here's a close up look..
notice the bird on its back, I wonder what it signifies?



I had to sharpen this foto or else, it's too dark. ^-^
Somebody needs to do some serious cleaning on this one.

" Intendencia - the ruins "

continuing Yesterday's post...



This ruined and unrecognizable structure was once called Intendencia
and is located at the end of the road
of Magallanes, here in Intramuros.
Not too touristy for that matter,
an ordinary passer-by wouldn't be familiar with this place.




It was built around 1823-29 by a Spanish engineer and was severely damaged
during the war between 1941-1945, it was then restored to its original state,
but in 1979, a heavy fire left this structure yet again in ruins.






Until today, plans for restoration is still on hold.



* the empty space may well be a jungle, as plants and unknown sorts are sprouting out of nowhere.






Looking closely at the doors and windows,
I was drawn to its grilled ironwork and craftsmanship during that time.
I couldn't make out what inspired this structure,
it seems to be a melange of
neo-classical with a bit of industrial or maybe it's just the way it is.





Browsing through google and wikipedia,
the place used to be an Ayuntamiento or city hall.




notice that despite the monsoon and heavy typhoons, some of its architectural details remained intact.

" Brick Lane "

Once a upon a time, it used to be a structure that was in tiptop shape.
But now, it's decayed and rotten.



It doesn't help when the government leaves it behind and
abandons the whole structure.

I was particularly drawn at its details,
meanwhile,
will be sharing more of this tomorrow.

" Pretty maids all in a row "

Aside from food, Pinoys also have a thing for fashion and
in one of my drive-by photos, I chance upon a group of women sitting
on a fountain outside Sta. Cruz church with a splash
of these colorful shirts. ^0^

..and don't mind the title,
It's just another gibberish phrase that I could think of...^-^

I wish everyone a peaceful week ahead,
It's going to be Holiday this Maundy thursday till easter Sunday as we observe
Holy week and while the rest of the peeps are off to the beach or some in a
holier sense visit churches, reflect and pray.
Me, I'm just looking forward for some break and a very long weekend.

I just like how the Kutsero (Coachman) blended well with his carriage,
with the swirls and yellow.
Not the usual Calesa you'd see on the street, this one's larger and much

" Macopa "

Have you ever heard of Macopa?
how about Tambis or Malay Apple?



That's one of the many names of this tropical fruit.

Its crunchy-like almost ball shaped fruit that looks quite red when its ripe.
I must admit that I haven't tried one of these yet... ^-^

ps: have been worrying about my foto uploads,
why ALL of them suddenly went to under maintenance.

" Kakanin "

did I tell you that one of our favorite past time is Food. ^0^
We never seem to can't get enough of it.
We love to munch and crunch this and that.

Shown here are some of our cool Kakanin- rice cake native delicacy treats.


Its main ingredient are Rice and Coconut milk. ++

To start off : that colorful one on the right is what we call Sapin-Sapin
literally means layers,
then, beside the layered Sapin-Sapin are Biko or simply, Rice cakes,
filipino version that is.
next to it, the white cakes that seem to be marked in yellow (cheese) are Puto.
and the last tray on the left, the dark one are Kutsinta.

They're usually served during special occasions or Fiestas,
but nowadays, you can buy them anywhere, it's just a matter of which one
tastes better.

so the next time, you chance upon these delicacies I hope you'd give it a try. ^0^

"Jones Bridge "

Just in time to catch this one crossing the bridge.
I'm not sure but it looks like a cleaning boat,
I hope the promise of rehabilitation and cleaning of the Pasig river
still continues and not only in trendy areas but
even the unseen as well.
It would've been great for let's say river cruising for tourists or
simply exploring great sights without worrying on inhaling any weird or
foul smells and whatnot.



Which reminds me that I have to take the ferry ride sometime. ^0^

I was lucky to see this piece even from afar,
maybe because the weather's fair that day.
Usually, you could only get a slight hint or silhouette of these boats.

Zooming closer I noticed It was named after a province called Sarangani
with a Philippine flag attached to it.
