" Sta. Cruz Bridge "

so this was taken on a grey saturday morning whilst inside the train.
I always wanted to take a photo of this from above but during rush hour,
you're lucky if you can get a seat, the train is most of the time,
cramped and unventilated.
I'm glad I was early that day. ^0^

Photobucket

This is the Sta. Cruz bridge overlooking the Escolta side,
that's a high-rise condo unit on your right,
if you look further, that's the Jones bridge.

"Jeepneys for sale "

Photobucket

In case you're interested in buying,
there's an open garage near Broadway centrum.
I love the cool signage and the casing, not your usual kind of display.

" Longer Route "

Photobucket

There is the short and long version,
but I prefer to take the latter,
less pollution and traffic.
This is one of the passageways on the way to LRT and MRT (railway stations)

Photobucket

sometimes the signs are a bit confusing, look at where the slow-lane was pointing at?
but I think this time, it's right, that escalator and the rest of the escalators here are really slow.

" Strike a pose! "

Photobucket

somehow an ordinary scenario here while waiting for the train to arrive.
and like always, it's packed with people during rush hour
while on the other side, all seem quiet.
This security guard though, dedicated and alert on his job in maintaining
peace and order.
cute pose though don't you think?! ^0^

ps: again, sorry for not commenting back...
will be back with you shortly.. ^0^

" the Pedicab guy "

I like taking photographs of anything that comes with the word ____cycle in it.
and this one caught my interest in its rather peculiar installation.

Photobucket

"Pedicab" is a local term for this kind of transport.

" circa "

Photobucket

I don't know how to describe this picture.
you know, how sometimes there are so much words running through your mind,
but when you start blogging it just went blank?!
I do! ^-^

I just like how the Kutsero (Coachman) blended well with his carriage,
with the swirls and yellow.
Not the usual Calesa you'd see on the street, this one's larger and much
old looking.

" Jeepney series "

The minute you set foot here in Manila, don't be surprise to see the many kinds of public transportation here ranging from big buses to small tricycles, from fast trains to even a slow carriage called Calesa. You name it, we have it.

Photobucket

But among those mentioned, the one vehicle you can't miss, the official ride of all time that's been here for ages is the "Jeepney."

and although, there's room for improvement, this ride is considered to be the cheapest, most reliable ride ever.

...Minutes before it arrives and while I patiently wait for the train...
I look up and saw these dizzying yellow grid steels and attractive adverts,
one way to set your mind off boredom.

" Everything's bleu "

I had my car renewed this morning.
It wasn't as bad as I hoped it would be.
What usually seem like long hours of waiting and some grueling process,
today surprisingly, it wasn't congested and crowded at all.

This is one of the LTO- (Land Transportation Office) branches here in Manila.
Isn't it screaming blue everywhere? ^0^

Photobucket

I'm waiting for my name to be called, I think it must be window#5,
The space wasn't well lighted, so it's hard to get a good frame.
The label on the right is an instruction on how to get a proper car registration.

" Slim Shady "

..so goes the name of this Jeepney.
maybe it was inspired by Eminem. ^0^
It's already late at night, but you can still catch a ride.
The minimum jeepney fare costs P 7.- pesos for the first 4kms. but it increases depending on how far you're going.
Although newly installed, air conditioned rides are available for tourism purposes and some well known areas.

This is what you see daily, still old school.

" Have a sit "

This is the interior of how our LRT train looks like,
still unhurried at this hour,
not crowded, so, we were pretty lucky to get comfortable seats.

The guard stretching out his right arm is politely asking the old guy
to move further ahead as seating there isn't allowed.

There's a regulation here that prioritization on the first row are for
senior citizens, children and disabled people only.

that's why most of the passengers were turning their heads, curious about the
slight commotion.

Photobucket

and then the rest of the seats on the first carriage are strictly for women passengers only.

and so, here we are waiting for the next stop. ^0^

"Do you need a ride ?"

Photobucket

This morning, i saw this girl riding on this makeshift "Calesa".
This is what it usually looks like,
Those who are training to be a "kutsero" or coachman, would normally go around on this one before riding the real thing.

I wonder what's this little girl doing in there ? she's obviously too young for it,
I think that's his brother beside the horse, regardless, I think she's having a good time. ^0^

"choo-choo"

PNR- Philippine National Railways, one of the oldest conventional transporation here in Metro Manila.
It is a state-owned railway system and was only developed modernly in 1984.
It operates on two different rail lines. (the North and South rail line.)

The government is actively pursuing the rehabilitation of PNR through various investments and projects designed to revive Philippine rail transport. The situation however is still hampered because of the large numbers of slum dwellers on the rail tracks throughout the entire rail system, although some portions of the southrail line, where informal settlers were successfully relocated to housing settlements outside Metro Manila.

This is a sample of what the old train looks like.

My short field trip today was to visit the Train's headquarter which is located here in Manila.
I've never been to this side of town for awhile and was at first hesitant because it's not the usual route that i would go to.
Commuting for a train here is a little passe and uncommon unlike India which is very busy,
because there are more accesible and cheaper rides you can choose.
Before, It used to be uninviting, dilapidated, old and inaccessible.
But now, I'm surprised to see for myself how it's improved.
The new change would be that there are more "new" train engines coming thus, opening more routes all the way to the provinces like Sorsogon and La union.
I'm glad the gov't has found ways of progress and new developements.
I hope these "new hopes" won't be gone to waste in the future.

*Have you ever rode on a train before? What was it like? ^0^

We saw this "Pagasa" ship docked infront of Fuji Maru and was intrigued why the ship was named Pagasa (which means hope in english).
Apparently, it's an auxiliary ship used in naval operations and was formerly a presidential ship.
I wonder if the president has tried it before...^0^
